With over a decade having passed since the release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, star Ewan McGregor has been asked repetedly over the years about the possibility of reprising his role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in potential a spinoff movie. When Disney purchased Lucasilm and began churning out spinoffs every year, fans got their hopes up that a Kenobi film would be on the way by now, but apparently there’s currently no plans for it, especially after Solo bombed at the box office this past May.
Recently in an interview to promote the release of his latest film, Christopher Robin, McGregor was asked to for any information on the long awaited project. Unfortunately, he then made it clear that to his knowledge, nothing is in the works as of now. “I would totally do it, of course,” he confirmed, before adding: “There’s no plans as such to do it, as far as I know.”
Rumors have swirled that the movie could possibly debut on Disney’s planned streaming service, while others have claimed that all future Star Wars spinoffs have been put on hold while Lucasfilm reevaluates its plans after Solo’s poor performance. McGregor, on the other hand, was adamant that he believes there is potential there. “There must be a good story to tell as they’re doing spin-offs – there’s likely to be a good Obi-Wan between me and Alec Guinness.”
