The Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off film is still not officially announced. Despite that, pre-production on the film is well under way according to a new report. The report also claims filming on the project will begin in January of 2019 with an eye towards a December 2020 release date.
This comes to us from Star Wars news and fan-site Fantha Tracks. They shared a report from a Lucasfilm source claiming that the art department on the film is already prepping Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, and that ILM in London is also already hard at work. Their source further claims that the production is only going to grow more when Episode IX finishes filming sometime this fall, presumably in late October. Official filming on Kenobi will begin in January of 2019 but the main shoot won’t start until April.
This is big news because it suggests an official announcement on the film might be imminent. To date, we’ve got no official word at all. Rumors have indicated that Stephen Daldry is in line to direct with Ewan McGregor returning, but those have never been confirmed. Reportedly Ewan is a special guest at the premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story tonight, so take that as you will.
